Tot School- Hh

Now it's Z's turn...We call our time together as Tot school. Tot school is focused time with (my) toddler, exposing early learning skills through fun play. It is not too structured. Actually, I am still in the process of learning how to teach Z. Sometimes, it's tempting to compare Z with Em and have her as the standard of what he shoud be learning. But I have to be reminded that God made him different from Em, and that He alone can give us wisdom and patience in teaching and discipling our boy. :)

While Em is doing her schoolwork, Z and I usually play, sing or color together. Or I just let him do his own thing- he usually plays with his sword and armor. I give him quiet time to work alone with puzzles, but if you know Z, he cannot stay quiet and still for a long time! He is our boy full of energy. He also gets hungry around this time, so I let him have some snacks. As Z is getting older, I hope to be more intentional and be more prepared in giving him one-on-time. Letter Hunt

He was so proud of his work! Hahaha

While Em and I are busy, this is what he usually likes to do- which leaves the whole room all messy. We are working on having him clean up after himself. Praise God that little by little, he is learning to obey when he is told to clean up.
Clean-up Time

He also likes to play with random stuff around the house.

One of his favorites is "hainting".

Here he is riding his "dino-horse".

MFW K- Hh for Horse

WORDS TO REMEMBER:
I obey right away.

BIBLE

We learned that a well-trained horse obeys right away. It obeys its master's command- whether to go to the left, to the right or to stop. Likewise, children need to obey their parents. Colossians 3:20 says "Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord". I asked Em if she loves God and she exclaimed "Yes!". I also asked her if she loves Daddy and Mommy and she again said "Yes!". I  explained to her that she shows love to God and to us by obeying our commands.

This poster from Totally Tots is posted on our homeschooling board. It serves as a reminder for her that she needs to obey right away, all the way, every day. And that she needs God's help in doing so. I also explained that God can see her heart if she is obeying happily.

We also discussed that Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him (Genesis 6:22). On the other hand, Jonah did not obey God right away and because of that, he faced consequences for his disobedience.

To illustrate that joy and blessings are results of obedience, I hid "treasures" around the house. I told Em that to find the "treasures", she needs to listen very closely and follow my directions exactly as I told her. She was happy to find her favorite milk chocolate drink and the binocular from her cousin.

MEMORY VERSE

We reviewed the verses we learned from preschool. We finished Raising Rockstar Preschool (RRSP) almost a year ago. We truly enjoyed the RRSP lessons and the verses we learned are still hidden in Em's little heart. The cut and tape pages for Colossians 3:20 is from RRSP Letter C and the one for Philippians 2:14 is from RRSP Letter D.

SCIENCE

We learned that

Horses can sleep both lying down and standing up.
Horses can run shortly after birth.
Domestic horses have a lifespan of around 25 years.

              Horses are herbivores (plant eaters).
Horses have bigger eyes than any other mammal that lives on land.
Because horse’s eyes are on the side of their head they are capable of seeing nearly 360 degrees at one time.

Em was amazed to learn that horses can see what's behind them. She wanted to be like them! hahaha

The fun facts about horses are from here. We only discuss what is appropriate for her age and what we believe is true (that God made horses about 6,000 years ago).

Learning about horse gaits

Here she is trotting and walking like a horse.

THINKING SKILLS

I asked Em to compare horses and cars. She said that horses and cars are both fast; she can ride on them; both need to be washed; but horses have hair!
Together, we made a list of the many ways horses have helped people in the past and present. Here's her list: Horses have helped people (1) haul a milk wagon; (2) play cowboy; (3) travel; and (4) join a jumping contest!

HANDWRITING

MATH

Learning about weight and size.

ARTS AND CRAFT

Drawing

She said she doesn't know how to paint a horse, so she just painted a picture of herself.

We read Billy and Blaze book and she made a birthday card for a friend:

Em and Z made horse puppets.

BOOK TIME

For each unit, we read one Bibleless people from the book From Akebu to Zapotec.

She especially enjoyed the following books: Robert the Rose HorseBilly and Blaze and My Chincoteague Pony. She asked me to request more books from the Billy and Blaze series. She also said "I want my own pony, but I know it's expensive to buy one".

MUSIC

Em enjoyed listening to William Tell Overture (Finale) while riding on her horse's back. (Thank you Daddy for pretending to be a horse)
